Memoirs of A 70's Sneaker Wearing Dad (<--click)

Welcome to my groovy little "70's" Blog. This is an online diary highlighting my coming of age memories in the 1970's, my journey as a entrepreneurial dad and my observations of life today.

My hope is that this will be a journal of my wacky experiences that can be looked back on by my daughters, my family and my friends. Read with amusement and enjoy my take on being happy, finding things to live for and the funny side of parenting.

A One Year Anniversary

Wow! It's already been a year since I launched CurtisTucker.com. That was quick. Unfortunately I'm still trying to find my groove with this blog. I want to enlighten my daughters with wisdom and tales from my childhood but feel this blog needs something more.

It has slowly taken a turn towards my memories of the 70's which has been fun. Can anyone help me out a little? If there were a blog out there about _______, that you would read daily, what would it be? What kinds of posts do you enjoy and wish there were more of?

I'm open to just about anything and would love to take this blog to the next level in the up coming year two. Send me your ideas and thanks for reading over the past year!

Email me.

Fun New Blog Updates

Hey guys, have you seen the cool new button icons along the side? There are now so many social media type sites it is getting tough to keep up with them all. As an Internet guru I have been trying to stay on top of the latest and greatest sites and services.

I have joined most of the major social networking sites and now have links to most of them. In those swanky new buttons along the side you will find links to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, MySpace, LinkedIn and a few others. I try to keep many of these sites updated but can't updated all of them on a regular basis. I have 100 other websites to update you know.

I hope you bounce around and check out the sites. Join any that you are not a member of and start connecting with people you haven't heard from in years or connect with people you would have never met in a million years.

I've also added my Labels along the side lower down. If you click on a label it will pull up all of the posts that relate to that subject.

Enjoy! And thanks for stopping by from time to time. That's all for now and it's back to the drawing board!

Do You Dooce?

I've had a well known community blog going for a few years now but just recently started this personal type daddy blogging thing. I'm finding that is a bit different looking for ideas about yourself and trying to walk a line between telling about yourself but not divulging too much.

Doing research on personal blogs I ran across what must be the most popular mommy blog out there. It is simply called Dooce. Dooce is actually Heather B. Armstrong, an individual that didn't start out to create a blogging empire and huge following but over time has done so.

She's funny, creative and bit on the edge at times. She likes to push buttons and in doing so has created somewhat of a cult readership. The reason I posted about her today is that I think she has done something pretty impressive.

Dooce has offered to give-a-way several Nintendo Wii machines for just leaving a comment on her blog. That is not the impressive part, the impressive part is that in two days she has around 40,000 comments! I understand that many people are leaving multiple comments but this is still a very impressive amount of participation.

If you are looking to become a professional blogger I highly recommend doing a quick study on Dooce. She currently has the magic touch and anything that might rub off can only do you some good. Check out her set up and quickly enter the drawing - Dooce.com.

Natural SEO vs. Pay Per Click Ads

I was just emailing with one of my new readers and he brought up something I have not eluded to yet. As of today, I do not use any form on PPC ads, AdWords or pay for any other form of advertising. That is not to say that I wouldn't try some of those forms of traffic building in the future. I'll let you know when I use any form of paid advertising.

All of my traffic and income is based on natural SEO. That means I do not spend a dime on advertising, zip, zilch, nada. My traffic comes from my natural rankings in the search engines. My only reoccurring costs are for domain names and web hosting.

My web pages had over 5.8 million page views in 2007 and I aim to shatter that number in 2008. I have not optimized my sites very well for advertising and have relied heavily on Google Ads. This year I am trying new forms of income generation and I will share with you what has worked best for me.

I would guess 90% of my traffic is generated by Google. Another goal in 2008 is to create a large amount of new traffic using viral marketing. More about that later.

Check back and I will soon write some posts on how I can create that amount of traffic without spending a dime.

Creating A Cash Cow Niche

http://www.curtistucker.com/images/studio.jpg
Working from this groovy little cartoon studio I have been able to quit my 8 to 5 job, I've been able to support my family and I'm on my way to making that elusive million. How did I turn a niche into a cartooning cash cow? Here's an example of how marketing to a niche can bring in big bucks for your service or product.

When I began marketing my cartoons online in 1998 I had the intention of selling gag cartoons to editors of magazines and newspapers. It wasn't long before I discovered there was stiff competition in the cartooning world. I had no focus and no direction in my early days. I was trying to market to everyone!

One day I decided to throw a few samples of my cartoon portfolio online, along with my gag cartoons, and all of the sudden I started getting requests for cartoon logos. I quickly learned there was money to be made in that niche and after a Google search I happily found out that there wasn't anyone specializing in that area.

Within a few months I became the premiere cartoon logo designer by ranking at the top of every search engine for the keywords, "cartoon logos". That was my niche!

Over the years I've found multiple niches and filled them with websites, directories and blogs. Find your own niches and begin to fill them with valuable content and you will be on your way to being self employed.

Here's an example of digging deep for a niche: pets > indoor pets > cats > Persian > pure breed > show cats. Create a blog about Persian show cats and you're sure to reach more targeted traffic and higher search engine placement than creating one only about pets.

How I Make Money Online At Home!!

Are you wondering how a sneaker wearing dad gets to stay home and watch his two really cool daughters? In case anyone is curious I want you to know that anyone can make money online working from home because I've done it!

Here are many of the money making ventures I have created online...

1. I created and run a custom cartoon logo design web site. I create funny cartoon logos for clients worldwide. Visit The Curtoons Cartoon Company & eCartoonLogos.
2. I own a graphic design studio in my hometown. I create logos, brochures, web sites and design ads, radio spots and TV commercials. Visit Shaggy Duck Studios.
3. I design and sell my own line of funny paper greeting cards. My cards can be purchased retail or wholesale. Visit ChuckleBerry's Paper Card Company and Wholesale Paper Cards.
4. I design content rich web sites, directories and blogs. I sell advertising on these web sites and also display Google ads and affiliate links. I now have between 50-80 running or near running sites. Visit Baby Dog Names, Zoinkies! and The Classic Baby Store for an example.
5. I create and sell my own collection of cartoon clipart. Visit Free Clip Art Pics.
6. I own the rights to a wide variety of cartoon characters which I license to interested partners. I also sell merchandise from these characters. Visit Cartoon License and WeinerDuck.
7. I sell royalty free cartoon characters and retain the rights to each of them. Visit Life's A Character.
8. I run and update a few fun and informative niche web site/blogs. Visit this site Curtis Tucker, Enid Buzz and Make Life Happy.
9. I also host web sites, build them and update them for outside clients. Here is an example of one of those simple sites - Inboard Helmet Lights.
10. There are also a few more random ways that I make small amounts of income including a few Cafe Press stores, selling greeting card racks (drop shipping) and thinking up fun brand names.
11. Watch for a new eCard website soon!

Thanks for reading. Stay in touch and I'll be providing tips from time to time on how ANYONE can make money online and can get to stay at home just like me!
