My Latest Cartoon Project
Presley, a boxer born in Perry, Oklahoma, is the "Greatest American Dog." He won that title on the CBS competition series that aired in summer 2008. He and his owner Travis Brorsen are off on another adventure, and asked for my help.
"Adventures with Travis and Presley, Part 1" is a DVD and book set that teaches children the importance of good manners while helping Presley find his bone. The series, the first of eight, is designed for ages 2 to 6, but it is entertaining and fun for all youngsters. My company, The Curtoons Cartoon Company collaborated on the project to help bring it to market. The DVD/book combo can be ordered for $9.99 at www.travisandpresley.com. What Exactly Do I Do?
I was asked by an emailer this week what it is I do exactly. When asked that question I really have to stop and think. Depending on the day, the answer can be completely different. Here is an idea of what I TRY to do. I don't always succeed but this is somewhat close. These are the top 5 things I do daily. 1. I draw cartoons for clients worldwide. They are used for logos, illustrations and other marketing materials. I do not draw a cartoon strip. 2. I build my own websites and blogs, fill them with content and make money from Google AdSense, affiliate sales and outside advertising. 3. I create royalty free cartoon characters and clip art and sell them online. 4. I build, host, optimize and update websites for other clients. 5. I own a small greeting card company where I create, market, print and mail paper cards to retail and wholesale clients. I could probably make a descent 8 to 5 job out of any one of these but what fun would that be? Juggling ten things at once and staying up until 1 am every night has its rewards. Being an entrepreneur gives you the ability to make as much money as you are willing to put forth the effort to make. It can be a little addicting actually. The key to being a true entrepreneur, which I am slowly finding out, is not working harder and longer, but learning to work less and smarter while maintaining the same flow of income. Well, as of November 2008, that is what I do. What will I be doing in November 2009? That's the exciting part! I'll be doing whatever I want to be doing!! Is this a great country or what!! Just A Couple Of Characters
While on vacation in Orlando this year I met with a fairly famous cartoon character. We hit it off fairly well since I create cartoon characters and he is one. We compared goofy looking shoes and of coarse he was in awe of my really cool sneakers. I of course wanted a pair of those chic red pants with white buttons. After exchanging contact information we parted ways. He went back to his fantasy land and I made my way back to mine. I'm still looking for my "mouse that started it all". Could it be as simple as a cute little berry? A ChuckleBerry... take a sneak peek. Labels: Cartooning, Curtis Tucker
Cartoons As Art
While on a recent visit to Vegas, my hot wife stumbled upon an art gallery that had some fantastic art she knew I would love. We later returned to the gallery and it was filled with these very large paintings of the entire Peanuts gang. Some of the paintings were as big as the walls. We fell in love with this painting called "Mon Ami", meaning "my friend" in French. It reminded us of us. Me, in my beach gear, my hot wife cuddling up close to me. We actually almost bought a lithograph but realized it would have rivaled the cost of our entire trip. Alas, I am only left with this photo they kindly allowed me to take. If you're ever looking to buy me a surprise gift... (hint, hint, nudge, nudge) The artist of these great cartoon paintings is Tom Everhart. Visit his site and read his story... Make Money With Cartoons - Graphic Design

When people ask me what I do I normally pause and have to think about the many things that I do these days. I guess my main gig continues to be cartooning but it is becoming a smaller part of my business every day. The Internet allowed me to become the premiere cartoon logo designer online and also allowed me to quit my day job. The logo design above is one of my most popular and most commented on cartoon logos.
Today I've expanded into other ventures and several more cartoon ventures. I'll give you as many ideas on how to make money cartooning as I can. This is idea #1.
Create cartoons for logos, signs and graphic design purposes. If you decide to follow this route of cartooning you will need to be pretty talented at drawing and creating good looking designs. Many forms of cartooning rely less on a drawing talent but cartooning for graphic design requires it.
Cartoons are used in graphic design on billboards, in magazines, within logos and on many product label designs. You must learn how to work with the computer and know how to digitize a cartoon to make it in this field. More on the way!
