From the 70′s to now…

Posted by curtoon2062 in Blawg, The 70's

Wow! Think back to the 70′s and then look at the world today. Whod’a thunk? Here are a few things that I never would have guessed happening while I was living in the 70′s. If I had been asked to predict the future, I never would have predicted… 1.) Chastity Bono would become a boy. 2.) I would be carrying a phone as powerful as NASA computers in the 70′s. 3.) The daughter of Elvis would marry a member of the Jackson 5. 4.) 8 tracks would become hard to find...

The Street I Grew Up On In The 70′s

Posted by curtoon2062 in Blawg, The 70's

I grew up in the 70′s and spent most of those later years living on west Broadway in Enid, Oklahoma. Almost every boy in our circle also lived on west Broadway. We spent most summer days riding our bikes or skateboards from one house to another. West Broadway was probably the greatest street in Enid to grow up on. It had many great homes running along each of its sides and our grade school was located at one end. I believe Broadway once had a middle lane to allow for a trolley. This...

Summers in the 70′s

Posted by curtoon2062 in Blawg, The 70's

Wow! Summer has arrived! I used to love summer time when I was a kid in the 70′s. My sister and I were what was called latchkey kids, meaning we were usually home alone when school was out while our mom worked. My summers were filled with days of skateboarding, bike riding and tadpole hunting. There was a creek near our neighborhood called Boggy Creek in which we spent many hours collecting tadpoles, frogs and turtles. We ruined many a pair of sneakers in that stinky creek. I lived in an...

My Top 10 Favorite Movies From the 70′s

Posted by curtoon2062 in Blawg, The 70's

Going to the movies was a big deal in the 70′s. I remember paying 50 cents to see many movies and usually only on special occasions. There weren’t as many movies being released and there weren’t multiplex theaters. Our town had a twin theater and that was big time where we grew up. So, seeing a good movie in the 70′s had a pretty lasting impression on a young buckaroo. This is my Top 10 list of those movies that left a lasting impression on me. These of course are not...

Seeing Nixon – 1974

Posted by curtoon2062 in Blawg, The 70's

The most iconic President of the 70′s had to be Richard M. Nixon. Politics have never been the same since. Watergate will go down as the biggest political story ever. As a little buck-a-roo, all of eleven years old, I saw President Nixon when he came to my hometown. In 1974 President Nixon landed at Vance, AFB in Enid, Oklahoma. My great-grandma was a huge fan of Nixon. She wrote letters to him and collected his presidential plates. I’ve got a small collection of things from that...

The Ultimate 70′s Photograph

Posted by curtoon2062 in Blawg, The 70's

(click photo for larger view) Okay, look what I dug up! This could very well be the ultimate 1970′s photograph. This photo is dated June ’77. It is a picture of me (skateboard) and my friend Bruce Bradley. Can you spot all of the cool 1970′s references? A list of 1970′s coolness: 1.Long hair with bangs. 2. Cut off shorts with pockets sticking out 3. Knee socks with stripes 4. How about my shoes! What were those called? 5. Grentech Coyote skateboard from OTASCO 6. Ten...
